CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We started our morning with cloudy skies and a bit of wind as we sailed into the bay. It took us about half an hour before we spotted our first blow on the horizon! As we got closer we could see 2 humpback whales resurfacing slowly. They showed their beautiful flukes multiple times as they went for short dives disappearing under the waves. We then noticed some bigger splashes not to far! A pod of 3-5 white beaked dolphins decided to join! They jumped out of the water multiple times before speeding up and started travelling west. Eventually it was time to go back to the harbour so we sailed back to Reykjavik.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The wind and waves had calmed this afternoon and we sailed out into the bay with only a few whitecaps on the water. After a little while of searching, we spotted our first cetacean! It was a minke whale! It surfaced not too far from us and did a few surfaces towards us and down the side of the boat but unfortunately, this was all we saw of it as it disappeared after that. We decided to move on and it didn't take us very long to spot our next species - a humpback whale! This individual was likely feeding as there were plenty of birds around and even a couple of fishing boats. It gave us many wonderful fluke dives but once some more boats joined the party, we decided to move on again. We were in luck! Not far away we spotted some more blows and they belonged to a pair of humpbacks! This pair were moving slowly and doing a lot of breaths at the surface so we could get a good look at them. They even came up right next to us a few times! Amazing to see their bright white fins through the water and hear their blows! After watching this pair for a while, we started to run out of time and had to head back to the harbour. A great afternoon at sea!
