CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out with cold icelandic air and a little bumpy sea. And not even 5 minutes in, we saw a minke whale ! It was surfacing very often and we could have a good look at his snout and body, because it was coming very close to the boat. After a while we left it alone, because there were other boats arriving and we don't want to crowd the animal. So we sailed out into the open bay and tried to find something else. Unfortunately there were no other animals around, but seabirds. We checked all the areas, the animals usually are, but no luck. At one point we also ran out of time, so we had to head back to the harbor. But at least we had a very good encounter with the minke whale, which is rare, because minke whales tend to be very shy. :)

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: It was mostly sunny this afternoon with tall but long waves and barely any wind. We had quite the search but after sailing around for quite some time, we suddenly saw a big white pectoral fin come up out of the water, seemingly waving at us to come over. The whale in question was clearly a humpback whale and it was treating us to a great show full of pec slaps, often lifting both fins out the water at the same time, slamming it back at the surface! after a great spectacle, the whale moved onwards on his travels and we got to stay with it for quite some time, as it fluke-dived multiple times. Eventually, we ran out of time and had to head back towards the harbour, soaking up the sun!
