CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 09:00

Report from Hafsulan: With some rain at the start we put on our rain jackets and headed out into the bay. It was not too long before we spotted one minke whale. This individual was a bit elusive and after three surface sequences it waved us goodbye, so onward we went. We then found three more solitary minkes! The water was calm enough that we could clearly see the three popping up around the boat. After a few surface sequences from our three minkes we spotted a blow in the distance and went to check it out. That was when we found a pair of humpback whales! It is always so nice to see two humpbacks together. These individuals were relaxing at the surface which allowed for continuous viewing. It was amazing to see those white pectoral fins through the surface of the water. We were then treated to a fluke dive from one of our two humpbacks! It is always amazing to see that classic humpback whale tail up close. After such a wonderful viewing, unfortunately it was time to sail back to port. What a wonderful start to the day!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 13:00

Report from Hafsulan: With overcast, but dry skies, we set out into the bay, excited to see who was out there today. As soon as we pulled out of the harbor we spotted one minke whale! This individual even started to lunge feed, a method of feeding where the lunge out of the water after the fish. It is always amazing when our more elusive species decide to give us a show. As we said goodbye to this minke we saw three harbor porpoises! They were pretty focused on feeding so after two surfaces, off they went and so we continued. After a little search, we saw the blow of two humpback whales! These two were relaxing or maybe even sleeping right next to each other and it was amazing to see their entire bodies through the surface of the water. There was a third solitary humpback whale in the distance, as well as 2 solitary minkes popping up around us periodically. After seeing the pair for a while, we went over to the third humpback and watched as it treated us to a few fluke dives before we ran out of time. A wonderful afternoon on the water!
