CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Hafsúlan: The weather was in our favor as we went out onto the sea with a slight breeze from the north east and the sun appearing over the horizon. First we searched between the islands, as we had good luck finding the whales there during the recent days. This time we had to go out a bit further but then spotted some dorsal fins on the surface. It was a pod of around 8 white-beaked dolphins. They were in a playful mood and swam along our boat for quite some time so that we had plenty of opportunities to take pictures of them. As we went on we spotted a humpback whale in the distance. Since this  whale was just coming up for single breaths between long dives, we waited for him to see him at least twice before we had to return back to Reykjavik. While waiting we were lucky to spot a little harbour porpoise traveling quickly at the surface. All together it was a great morning on the bay.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Hafsúlan: Our sea time began with a swift wind coming from NE and almost no swell coming from W. These conditions created a calm day and helped our guests stay out on the deck for a longer time. We ventured through the waters of Faxaflói with amazing views of the short meeting between the sun and the moon. The landscape with the snowy mountains filled our eyes, while no animals were popping up from the depths. Suddenly, 6 harbour porpoises popped up in formation to greet everyone! They were so good that they decided to stick with us for a bit and then vanish, like almost always. We continued our quest for an hour more and then we turned back to the harbour. But to our surprise, we spotted a blow just as we were about to give up! It came from a sleepy humpback whale! It went for a fluke dive, putting everyone on their toes, waiting for a bit. After that bit, it came up, back to sleep and we were able to see another beautiful fluke, before calling it a day.
