CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00
Report from Eldey: With a bit of that good Icelandic winter wind, we grabbed a hot chocolate, bundled up, and set sail. Right as we were leaving the harbor, we spotted the blows of 2 humpback whales! Right as we pulled up they went down for a deeper dive, but kept us wanting more, as they did not show us their flukes. After multiple surface sequences, they finally treated us to a beautiful double fluke dive. With their unique fluke prints, we could confirm that one of the whales in this pair was Banana! They then surfaced very close to the boat, which was wonderful to see their bodies through the surface of the water as they swam besides us. After a great encounter, we waved these individuals goodbye and continued. Along our route we spotted 2 harbor porpoises. They were around for a few surface intervals before moving along and so we also continued our journey. They was when we spotted the blow of another solitary humpback whale! This individual was a focused feeder and was surfacing all around us, keeping us always on the lookout in all directions. As we were watching this humpback we spotted another solitary humpback whale! This individual was also a focused feeder, showing off how quick humpbacks can swim. After multiple surface sequences, it was time to wave our whales goodbye and head to port. What a wonderful tour!
