  • Today's Whale Watching tour from Reykjavík are on schedule! Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: In this sunny morning we sailed out with perfect weather conditions, no wind at all and very calm seas. We headed north in Faxafloi bay and after a while searching we found a tiny body at the surface: it was a minke whale. Alone in the bay surfacing just a couple of times. It was a little bit difficult to spot this gentle whale along the water but we managed to observe it a few times more. While we were waiting to spot the minke whale again suddenly another different specie appeared in the middle: a humpback whale. A juvenile one which showed its little fluke only once. Always special to see the younger individuals starting their new life at the sea.

Birds seen today include:

Northern fulmar, black-legged kittiwake, common eider, black-backed gull, great cormorant, common guillemot, black guillemot.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The wind calmed down and so we went out on a flat sea. Not far out behind the islands we spotted a fast traveling minke whale and managed to get close at least for a few minutes. Shortly after we left this fast guy, we found us surrounded by a massive pod of over 100 white-beaked dolphins. They were everywhere!  We followed them for a while as they seemed to be searching for food in a wide spread formation. Again we spend a good amount of time with the animals before searching on for more whales. Already happy with our success, we spotted the blow of something much bigger in the distance. A humpback whale was traveling quite fast and we managed to get some nice views of this graceful animal before heading back to the harbor.
