Tour at 13:00

The sun definitely came out for the afternoon tour, absolutely gorgeous. Sea was also still flat calm and the visibility was just perfect. We first came across a small pod of Harbour Porpoises but they weren´t very interactive so we left them to it and went on our way. We saw a Minke Whale in the distance which seemed to take ages to surface between breaths. but suddenly out of now where it surfaced only 10-20 meters from a vessel. It surfaced so suddenly that i nearly gave the passengers a heart attack from the sudden WOW!!! 9´o,clock. We didn´t stay with this whale very long because of the long times between surfaces. After a little while longer I got word from the captain of a pod of White-beaked Dolphins (15-25 individuals), largest group I’ve seen in a long time. These were just resting to in the nice weather and kept changing directions when we got to close so we only spent about 10 or 20 minutes with these. It was really nice to see them. We saw one other Minke Whale, spotted by our passengers, which surfaced frequently giving the passengers a nice look. We saw loads of Puffins, Arctic Terns, Fulmars, Kittiwakes and Guillemots. All in all a very good tour!!

Tour at 9:00

This morning was a great morning to go whale watching. It was a bit grey but the sea was flat calm. We headed offshore onboard Elding and saw loads of Harbour Porpoises some groups were so relaxed with the boats and the weather conditions that they just rested on the surface almost looking like they were floating. It was really nice to see them so relaxed and enjoying the calm seas as much as we were. We also saw a lot of Minke Whales most of which were in one area and surfacing very close to the boat. We turned our engines off in this area and listened to nature, the birds and blows from the whales. It was lovely. Just beneath the water’s surface we also got a fantastic look at the schools of sand eels which the whales and birds feed on. Kittiwakes swooped down and lifted off with the sand eels squirming in their beaks. Birds we saw were Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Puffins, Arctic Terns and Guillemots. Fantastic tour ;)
