Today we will be operating on Þruma RIB for our 10:00 Premium Whale tours and on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land

Report from Elding : The sea was good and we had some sun as we went out of the harbour, though it did not last that long, after 20min the swell started. We had some snow and hail on the way, with some wind but after 2 hours it got highly rewarded by the presence of 2 humpback whales swimming closely together. The 2 humpbacks were of different sizes, one was smaller than the other, swimming and surfacing at the same pace only a few meters from each other. They were really calm and got slowly and elegantly really close to the boat, surfacing a few meters away from the bow letting us have amazing close looks of those 2 big sea creatures. After checking out the flukes we actually noticed it was the 2 same individuals we have been seeing in the last days in that area. We mainly had seen them in the same area before, but a few 100 meters apart, this was the first time we actually saw them as a pair. After we had some really nice close looks of the whales, we headed back in the direction of the harbour, everyone still amazed by the fact that they managed to see those gentle giants from that close.

Report from Eldey: We headed directly to the area where we found the humpbacks this morning. The swell was a bit bigger and the wind was creating many white caps in the water which affect the visibility. The weather was a nicer in the second half of the tour with sun to warm up.We crossed many Atlantic puffins during the way out and even a few arctic terns. After an hour we saw a blow! We got closer and spotted a humpback whale. It was a great sighting, the whale was very friendly coming close to our boat at many occasions. The cetacean was not going for deep dives and not showing the tail, just coming up to breathe near our boat. It passed very close on our right, dove and reappeared in the other side, dove again and came back on our right side, with passengers running from a side to the other to see this beautiful animal. After a while the humpback took a bit more space and went into a deep dive showing us its tail in the sunglare. We got closer to Reykjavik and crossed a second humpback whale. This humpback came to quite close! We stayed a few minutes before we got to head back to the harbour. With the wind in the back it was much more pleasant than before and we enjoyed the way back observing the birds, the landscape and Reykjavik.
