Today we will be operating on Þruma RIB for our 10:00 Premium Whale tour and on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land

 COVID-19: Keep in mind that passengers and crew are asked to ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitiser is advised.

Report from Eldey: As we started to sail away from the harbour the swell slowly intensified, getting up to 1 meter on short times but the wind stayed quite low, not much white caps in sight, which allowed us to have good visibility throughout the trip. The passengers had been warned before the trip to possibly take some seasickness tablets. After 40 min of sailing, with a light breeze, a blow was spotted at a distance. As we got closer we actually noticed 2 blows side by side, humpback whales, with some interesting activity around ... Appeared fins and flukes, flippers of the large whales, jumps, some white beaked dolphins were also there. The dolphins were jumping around the 2 large whales, the latest rolling on their side and showing their long flippers and fluke. 5 min later the dolphins left the area and we had some really nice looks of the 2 giants as they surfaced many times calmly really close to the boat. After this incredible encounter we sailed back to the harbour.

Report from the Ribs: Today we sailed out with the wind strength already at our operating limit. However, we were lucky to get a help from our bigger boat, which was already in the bay and found 2 humpback whales swimming together. Although the wind was strong and the swell was 1-1.5 meters, we had nice time watching them swimming just below the surface and fluking up. Few times, they surfaced up next to each other, so close to our boat, that we could hear their blows despite the strong wind! The wind picking up prevented us from cruising across the bay, in further search for other species, but we headed to Puffin islands and had a great time watching plenty of Atlantic Puffins and other interesting birds on the way back. We finished the tour with a bit of a fun ride and sightseeing the Reykjavik coastline. Meanwhile the wind picked up so much we had to cancel the rest of the tours for the day.

Report from Eldey: The conditions were quite similar to this morning with maybe a little bit less of swell. We headed directly to the area were we had such a nice time this morning, crossing many bird species during the way out like Atlantic puffins, guillemots, northern fulmars and arctic terns. We saw a blow and tried to got closer to find a humpback whale. It was not on of the ones seen this morning. The humpback seemed quite relaxed, not going for deep dives, just arching a bit the back to stay under the surface a couple of minutes and coming back. We could see it spy-hoping at some point and thanks to the white pectoral fins it was easy to see it when it was close to the sea surface. We stayed a while until another big boat arrived. We tried to spot other species or other humpbacks but we did not find anything so we went back to Reykjavik admiring the landscape and the birds.
