Today we will be operating on Þruma RIB for our 10:00  Premium Whale tour and on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land

Report from Eldey: Today we had everything in term of weather. Rain, snow, hail and sun. It was a bit windy, enough to create white caps, not enough to scare us! We went out trying to find some nice whales. We arrived in an area with flocks of birds so we thought we might get lucky but nothing appeared. We continued further out then we turned left. Far away a blow appeared! We approached the area and waited. The blow again! We went closer to see a humpback whale quite calm, swimming slowly and changing often directions. It was easy to follow, it was going for very short dives and never deep diving or showing the tail. When the wail turned toward us we could see the animal very well. We stayed a bit more but when too many boats arrived we left the area. We looked for more but it was late so we quickly went back to Reykjavik.

Report from the RIBs: Today we got surprised with the wind stronger than predicted by the forecast. Strong north wind and swell of average 0.7 meters created difficult conditions to find and observe the animals. We started our search on the north part of the bay, which was a bit less choppy due to the land protection from the wind. We stopped in the area where we spotted a flock of birds actively fishing. Lots of Puffins, Black Guillemots, Fulmars, but no signs of cetaceans. We headed south, further out in the bay, toward the place were bigger boats found a humpback whale. We've heard the individual was difficult to observe, displaying long dives and not showing much of its body. When we arrived, we join the search, since the individual hasn't been seen for a while. We spotted a lot of birds' activity in the distance, but the sea conditions weren't allowing us to go further out in the ocean. The wind picked up to 15 kt, sea was choppy, with white caps all around us, and the swell was reaching a meter, affecting few of our passengers with sea sickness. We stayed in the area for a while, hoping we'll see a humpback, but had no luck. On the way back, we stopped by another flock of actively foraging birds. Again, didn't see signs of cetaceans. Complimentary tickets were given.

Report from Eldey: It was a cool and windy start to our 13:00, so we stayed close to the beautiful landscape to avoid the boat rocking too much. About 30 minutes in, there was a surprise minke whale very close to the boat! However, in typical minke fashion it disappeared again. We tried to spot it again but eventually moved on. The weather slowly changed and we were greeted by the sun, and could see Reykjavik in the distance. We returned to the spot from the morning tour, and saw a 2-4 harbour porpoises along the way, but sadly had no further sightings. Instead we enjoyed sunshine and the guests were offered complimentary tickets.
