Today we will be operating on Þruma RIB for our 10:00 and 14:00 Premium Whale tour and on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

COVID-19: Keep in mind that passengers and crew are asked to ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitiser is advised.

Report from Eldey: Weather was merciful when we started this tour. There was less swell than the forecast expected, and the ride was smooth. Even in these optimal conditions and with good visibility, it took us about 30 minutes before spotting our first minke whale. It was the first out of five that we spotted today. The first two whales were just swimming around and it looked as they were milling. The third one was a minke whale that we know for a while, specifically since July 2011, it was our beloved Humpie, one of our most recognisable whales due to the large cut off section of its dorsal fin. It was impressive when it accelerated to a high speed and ram the water with its mouth open enganging a lunge feeding behavior once and again around our boat. There were two more minke whales in the distance but we decided to stay with Humpie for this breakfast time! Surrounded by contemplative razorbills and elegant northern gannets plunge diving it was like an inmersion in a live documentary.

Report from Eldey: We left searching for the whales in a pleasant calm sea. The wind coming from the east was cold but weak so most of our passengers did not need our overalls. We Went to the area that was good this morning and even if almost no bird was present, minke whales were still there. We probably saw around 10 of those baleen whales. Sometimes they were provoking some splashes at the surface probably feeding. On of those minkes decided to come very close surfacing a few times only a few meters froms us. After enjoy those minke whales we left and quickly found a pod of 6-7 white-beaked dolphins. They were milling, resting swimming close to each other so we kept our distance with them. After observing them we went back to Reykjavik, crossing 2 small groups of 4-6 harbour porpoises.
