CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: A southwesterly wind meant that the sea was relatively calm today, although we occassionally experienced the movements of the relatively high swell when we were standing still. The bay seemed to be full of life today, especially in an area where northern gannets and black-legged kittiwakes were feeding. We spotted 6-7 white-beaked dolphins, some of them jumping, others probably feeding. The dolphins came close to us and performed their acrobatic behaviour right next to the boat - what a show. In the same spot, we were able to observe 2 minke whales. We continued our journey, spotting at least three other minke whales spread out over the wider area before we had to head back to Reykjavík.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: It was an overcast afternoon and the light swell from the morning had a bit increased as we started our 1300 sail out in the bay. After some time we saw  a pod of white beaked dolphins, there was about 5 of them, but they quite fast moved away from our ship. In the same area we spotted an elegant yet fast moving minke whale. The animal surfaced about 3 times in the distance and then we could not notice it again. Moving again in the area 2 other minkes were noticed, their dark grey body with a pointy dorsal appearing a few times in the horizon. The animals were diving quite long today, probably busy feeding underwater. At the end of the tour we were lucky enough to spot a minke whale from up close, as it surfaced within 100 meters of the boat a few times.
