  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 9:00, 13:00

Today's whale watching tours from Reykjavík are on schedule. Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 09:00

Report from Hafsulan: on our first tour of the day, the swell was almost zero, allowing us to scan the bay very well. The sun was rising when we headed to the same area that we saw the whales on the last weeks. We searched for many areas, passing by the beautiful island of Viðey. There were 2 harbour seals not far from each other, just chilling and looking at us with curiosity. When we were heading more further the island and into the bay, we spotted a dark back! We waited to spot it again, when we found the 2 humpback whales swimming side by side that we saw on the last tours. They were very calm, going for beautiful fluke dives. They were spending around 7 min under the surface, allowing us to also appreciate the mountains and sunrise around us! Breathtaking. One of the whales was identified as Banana, and it was logging on the surface, while the other one was faster when going down to feed. After seeing them surfacing more, one of them decided to slap the pectoral fin on the surface! After this, we saw them one more time before we started heading back home. Lovely morning!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Hafsulan: This afternoon the sea continued as calm as ever when we went out again. We went towards the same are where we saw the whales in the morning, hoping they were still there. After a while looking, we spotted a dark back on the flat sea, and we went to investigate. There were 2 humpback whales side-by-side! First they started by just going for deep and shallow dives. But right after one of them started to breach! At least six times, and then roll! It showed the pectoral fin up in the air, waving it and slamming repeatedly on the surface. Then, more breaches.... WOW! and more pec slaps! What a show this whale was giving and it kept all of this up for over half an hour! This one was very active, and the other, calmer, was identified as Banana! During all this we also saw a minke whale pass by briefly, but it vanished rahter fast. We stick around a bit more with them until we decided to explore other areas, as the sun was slowly starting to set.
