CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 19:00

Report from Eldey: After a day of bad weather the wind came down and we went out for the whales. The sea was still wild with a strong swell, but there was not a lot of wind anymore and not that much white caps. The boat was still very rocky making unfortunately a few of our passengers seasick. We had a few light drops of rain but we were mostly dry during the tour. The evening light getting through the clouds was beautiful as well as the bright rainbow we had in our back. There was many northern fulmars following us during the way out, sometimes gliding a few centimeters away from the head of our passengers. We arrived to an excellent area where we have been lucky many times by the past but other than northern gannets plunge-diving we did not see many animals and no cetaceans. We turned and looked a bit more in the area until we headed back. The way back was much smoother, surfing on the swell. We gave a complimentary ticket to our passengers hoping that next time we will be more lucky with the sightings.

- Miquel Pons

Bird species encountered today include:

Northern gannet, northern fulmar, lesser and greater black backed gull, Sooty shearwater, Manx shearwater, black-legged kittiwake

In the event of unfavourable weather or unstable sea conditions, we sometimes have to cancel our tours for safety reasons. But that doesn't mean you can't make the most of your day in the city! There are numerous things to do in Reykjavík on a rainy day and many of our partners even offer tours that are less weather dependent than ours.
