Sun is up, freezing cold, that's how we already know, winter's here! Some 10 minutes into the tour we found a pod of 7 to 8 white-beaked dolphins that started to jump out of the water in ecstasy! We kept on following these amazing cetaceans as they came very close to the boat, jumped around again with the sunrise in the horizon and we could even see a calf amongst them!
It was a very chilly morning here in Reykjavík, so we put on our warm and cozy overalls and off we went in search of cetaceans! Two blows were seen in the middle of a big flock of kittiwakes, they were from 2 humpback whales that were feeding separately. We then saw one of them again in the afternoon and even witnessed a peduncle throw! Brilliant!
Today was another sunny day in Faxaflói bay, although the wind was strong and the sea was quite choppy. We had a pod of at least 4 white-beaked dolphins on both tours, but by the time we tried to get closer to them, they had disappeared. Despite our best efforts, we had no other encounters and therefore decided to give out complimentary tickets to our passengers!
In the morning we spotted a humpback whale, and saw another blow not too far out and it turned out to be 2 of them next to each other, and a minke whale and a pod of 10 white-beaked dolphins! This afternoon we saw 2 humpback whales (so close we thought they were touching the boat), then we saw 5 white-beaked dolphins as well as 6 harbour porpoises!
After some sailing this morning we spotted a blow and went to investigate. It turned out to be a humpback whale! In the afternoon we also found a humpback whale (temporarily named Spooky for Halloween, but also as it often appears and changes direction) and later we also spotted a pod of 12 white-beaked dolphins.
We sailed out onto a very sunny Faxaflói bay this morning and after about an hour of sailing we spotted 3 blows! We got a little closer and deduced that these blows belonged to 3 different humpback whales! This afternoon we saw 3-5 harbour porpoises, a minke whale and finally humpback whale!
Soon after we left the harbour this morning, we saw a pod of 15 white-beaked dolphins with a calf amongst them! We then spotted a minke whale and a humpback whale, the same individual from yesterday and then two more further out. In the afternoon we saw 2 pods of harbour porpoises close to the harbour and a lot of white-beaked dolphins. Then we found a humpback whale and a minke whale!
We saw about 4-5 white-beaked dolphins this morning, then at least two humpback whales, beautifully showing its fluke as well as a minke whale. In the afternoon we went to a similar area and quite quickly found one of the humpback whales from this morning as well as 3 white-beaked dolphins appeared jumping in big splashes.
This morning we had pastel colours in the sky, almost no wind and a calm sea on this chilly day. Not too long into our tour we spotted a harbour porpoise, then a minke whale surfacing really nicely and next a humpback whale! In the afternoon we also saw a minke whale as well as another humpback whale!
This morning the water was super flat all the way through the ride. We eventually spotted around 10 white-beaked dolphins displaying for us different behaviours such as bow riding, jumping, socialising and traveling. In the afternoon we spotted a tall blow in the distance, that turned out to be a humpback whale and later we also found a minke whale!
In the morning we saw a pod of white beaked dolphins and also encountered about 5 harbour porpoises. After a good amount of sailing in the afternoon, we ended in an area where we noticed fins of about 15 white-beaked dolphins, some even jumping all around us!
It didn't take too long to find wildlife this morning as we spotted a minke whale just metres from our front, then a pod of 15-20 very spaced out white-beaked dolphins! In the afternoon we also saw a minke whale, however as we go closer it completely disappeared. We therefore we decided to give out complimentary tickets to all our passengers!
We sailed out in Faxaflói, admiring sunrise for a while, when we spotted a tall blow in the distance which turned out to be a humpback whale, then a pod of 6-7 white-beaked dolphins, travelling calmly. In the afternoon we found 2 pods of harbour porpoises that surfaced nicely and then also about 10 minke whales!
We had lovely calm conditions on the water today, although it was bitterly cold. In all, we spotted 2 harbour porpoises, 3-5 minke whales including one that came a bit closer and about 3-5 white-beaked dolphins on our tours today, including a smaller juvenile in this pod sticking very close to its mother!
This morning we saw a few white-beaked dolphins and a big blow that we were unable to follow. In the afternoon we saw a huge splash that belonged to a breaching humpback whale (likely the owner of the blow from the morning), accompanied by 5-10 white beaked dolphins and about 5 minke whales in the same area!
